Drinks & Design

A curated night of vibrant conversation over craft cocktails — an event series by SF Common House & Coho

Every Thursday, we invite a dozen San Franciscans (designers, architects, artists, founders, and other interesting people) that we think should meet.

Based on your interests, we match you with a group of people who are some of the finest people in SF. Our goal is to create connection in a fun environment designed for authentic conversation—and we hope you'll leave with a couple of new friends!

FAQ

Do I need to be a designer? Is this for me?

No, you don't need to be a designer. Yes, we want to meet you! Creative people from all walks of life are welcome. Don't feel intimidated by the (short) application. Our goal is to find out enough about you so that we can match you with people we think you will enjoy connecting with.

When and where does it occur?

Design and Drinks unfolds every Thursday at a local restaurant in Noe Valley known for its craft cocktails.

If you are RSVPed for an event, you will receive an email with the exact location a few days before the event.

How much does it cost?

Expect to spend about $30. There is no cost for the event. However, we reserve a heated outdoor table at a restaurant where you can purchase appetizers for under $10 and cocktails from $12-18.

What's the format like?

We will start with introductions — where you share what you are passionate about (and not where you work). Each event has a facilitator to keep the conversation flowing and to make sure everyone is included as we jump between topics.

Who is behind this event?

This event is put on by Coho. Coho’s mission is to enable more people to live together in vibrant communities. Our philosophy is based on the Danish concept of bofællesskaber, which translates to “living community.”

Can I bring a guest?

Yes, when you RSVP you can add up to one +1.

Why are you doing this?

The design of today's cities make it hard for people to discover connections beyond their usual social circle (see: The death of third spaces). We aim to help people make the connections they would have otherwise missed out on. There are many amazing people in SF; you should meet more of them!

Additionally, this event's format is inspired by an event called S'mores Club that took place in SF before the pandemic. We wanted to bring some of the magic of that event back.

How do I get an invite?

Why is this event series called SF Common House?

The name is a reference to a concept from the Danish "bofællesskaber" approach to community design. In bofællesskaber, a common house is a shared building within a community where residents can gather, share meals, and experience serendipity. It's often the heart of the community, facilitating interactions and nurturing deep, authentic friendships.

Our goal with the event series is to create a similar environment where people can meet, connect, and form meaningful relationships.
